This coming year, resolve to read something new. Something different. Something that you’ve never read before. Have you ever wished you were a more adventurous reader, but always end up reading your favorite authors or genres? What better time to break away from old habits and give something new a try than with the turning of the year, and what better incentive than a reading challenge to do it. In 2024, make a new year’s resolution to complete (or at least attempt) the New Year’s Resolution Reading Challenge. The following challenge is designed to be fun, and like any new year’s resolution, is only a pact between you and yourself. Give it a shot, and if you can’t complete it, do as much as you’re comfortable with, in any order that you want. The Challenge: Read a fantasy novel by an author that you have never read before. Read a biography or a memoir. Read a historical novel by an author that you have never read before. Read an oversized book on any topic. Read a mystery novel by an author that you have never read before. Read a travel book for a place that you’ve always wanted to visit (leafing through it counts). Read a science-fiction novel by an author that you have never read before. Read a cooking or a crafts book (and then try one of the recipes or projects in the book). Read a romance novel by an author that you have never read before. Read a book about a hobby that you have always been interested in. Read a horror novel by an author you have never read before (if horror is too spooky for you, read a novel about witches). Read a poetry collection or a novel written in verse. Read either a short story collection or an anthology. Have fun and good luck!
