How to Apply for a Library Card
- Adults must provide a valid form of photo identification and proof of a current Randolph address such as a driver’s license, personalized check, or utility bill.
- Children five years or older are eligible for their own library card. A parent or guardian must sign the child’s library card application and accept responsibility for all materials checked out on a minor’s card. Parent/guardian must present identification as described above to verify residency in Randolph. Youth, ages 14 and up, may sign their own library card application but must still have proof of residency.
Borrowing Materials
Your Randolph Library card allows you to borrow a variety of items at one time with the following limits:
- Maximum of 3 items per subject per household
You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card. Please inform staff of any address, phone, or email changes. If your card has been lost or stolen, let us know immediately.
Through our membership in Main Library Alliance and the Open Borrowing program, your Randolph card may be used at other public libraries in Morris, Bergen, Middlesex, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren counties.
Non-residents may borrow most Randolph materials with library cards issued by other cooperating public libraries in the same six counties.
Renewing Materials
- Materials will be renewed automatically up to two times. Items will not renew automatically if another patron has placed a request for that item, the item is one of our Bestsellers, or the item is otherwise non-renewable. Renewal will take place three days before the item’s due date and you will be notified as per the preference in your library card account. Items are renewed from the original due date; no days are lost due to the date of the auto-renewal.
- You may check the status of materials you have borrowed online through My Account. Enter your library card barcode number and password/PIN on the login screen.
Requesting Materials
Request items online from the Main Library Alliance Library Catalog, phone in your request, visit our information desk or fill out a request form at the circulation desk.
If your desired title is not owned by a Main Library Alliance member library, you may ask library staff to locate it for you, or you may search and place a request in JerseyCat. JerseyCat is a virtual catalog that allows you to search the collections of over 700 New Jersey public and college libraries at one time.
Returning Materials
When the library is open, return all materials in the circulation desk return slot. Return overdue materials to circulation staff and pay any fee owed.
When the library is closed, return books and magazines in the large freestanding drop on the left side of the library (as you look at the front of the building from outside). This drop will also accommodate audio-visual materials in a separate slot. In addition, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, audiobooks, and playaways may be returned in the smaller freestanding drop located on the right side of the library (as you look at the front of the building from outside). Books may also be returned in the slot on the front of the building to the right of the front door. These items come directly into the library.
Materials checked out from Randolph may be returned to other Main Library Alliance libraries. The borrower is responsible for the material until it is received by the Randolph Library.
